Kuwaiti Groups with Ties to Hamas and al-Qaida Raise $8 million for Gaza

By Kharon Staff
More than two dozen Kuwaiti organizations and individuals, including those linked to sanctioned entities, have launched an online fundraising campaign for Gaza this week following the terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas. Sponsors of the campaign include those involved in arming jihadist rebels during the recent conflict in Syria.

Launched on October 9, the Mobilization for Palestine Campaign has since raised more than $8 million in donations using MyFatoorah, an online payment platform based in Kuwait that accepts payments through Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard and KNet – Kuwait’s popular card payment service.

Groups sponsoring the campaign include the Revival of Islamic Heritage Society and organizations led by individuals tied to the 2013 Great Kuwait Campaign, a private organization of Kuwaiti clerics and politicians that raised millions of dollars to arm Syrian jihadists with missiles and other weapons during that country’s civil conflict, according to a Foreign Policy report.

The Revival of Islamic Heritage Society was sanctioned by the U.S. in 2008 for providing financial and logistical support to al-Qaida and other terrorist groups in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Somalia, and elsewhere.

In a recent post on X, the group asked people to donate as part of an “urgent assistance for affected families [in] Palestine."

Several other groups sponsoring this campaign have links to another sanctioned entity known as the Union of Good, a Hamas-established umbrella coalition of more than fifty organizations in Europe, Africa and Asia. The Union of Good was sanctioned by the U.S. in 2008 for acting as “a broker for Hamas” and diverting funds to the terrorist group.

One of the Union of Good members is the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO), which is also sponsoring the ongoing Gaza campaign.

On October 10, IICO shared a video from the conflict in Gaza with the caption, “million dollars at the start of the campaign, make yourself a part of their victory." And on October 12, IICO encouraged followers to donate to the campaign, noting in a post on X: “Their victory is an honor for us, and their steadfastness brings pride and dignity.”

The Mobilization for Palestine Campaign is one of several fundraising campaigns launched this week by various groups that have ties to sanctioned terrorist organizations.
